The Savannah
River has played an important role in the history
and development of North Augusta. The City has adopted a long
range Plan to restore its connection to the riverfront by transforming
underutilized property into parks, recreational uses, tourism
venues, commercial activities and new neighborhoods.
When complete,
North Augusta's Savannah riverfront will become a new center of
activity where residents will be able to stroll or fish at a new
riverfront park, live in new traditional neighborhoods, or play
golf at a public course with dramatic river views. Click

Plans for
a new Town Center on Georgia Avenue include a new City Hall and
other public buildings mixed with retail and commercial uses on
a town square. Streetscape improvements will enhance the existing
Downtown Business District. The project, to be completed in several
phases, includes significant sidewalk, roadway, landscaping and
lighting improvements on Downtown streets. Phase I of the Downtown
Streetscape Project, to begin in 1999, will reconstruct Georgia
Avenue from the Georgia Avenue Bridge to Jackson Avenue.
