Residential
Service
The city
provides garbage collection once a week for each residential customer.
A special heavy-duty roll-cart container is numbered and assigned
to each customer's address. The customer is responsible for rolling
this container to the curbside on the designated collection day.
The city's automated collection vehicle, operated entirely by
a single driver, lifts the roll-cart container, dumps the contents
into the truck, and places the container back at the curbside.
Each
residential customer follows specific procedures.
1. All
residential garbage, including recyclables which are put in separate
blue bags, are placed in the roll-cart container for pickup. We
encourage the use of plastic bags for household garbage.
2. Some
materials are not put in the roll-cart containers: leaves, grass
clippings, limbs, dirt, sod, rock, brick, concrete, construction/remodeling/demolition
debris, hot ashes, and flammables such as oil, gas or paint.
3. On
collection day, each customer places the roll-cart container at
the curb in front of the residence, with the front of the container
facing the street. The container must be placed within two (2)
feet of the edge of the curb or edge of pavement and at least
five (5) feet away from obstructions such as mailboxes, fences,
power poles and shrubs. Also, the container is never placed in
the road or sidewalk where traffic may be blocked.
4. The
City Code provides that the container may be placed at the curbside
after 7:00p.m. the night before collection day and must be returned
to the house by 7:00p.m. on collection day.
Yard
Waste
Yard
waste is collected separately from household garbage/recyclables
on the same collection day. Yard waste, which includes leaves,
limbs and grass clippings should be neatly piled in the front
yard behind the curb or edge of pavement. It is not necessary
to place yard waste in plastic trash bags.
Large/Bulky
Items
The City
will pick up large and/or bulky items which will not fit into
the roll-cart container. These items, which include appliances,
furniture, large boxes, etc., should be placed at the curb on
collection day. All other items should be broken down and placed
in the roll-cart container to the extent possible.
