ORDER OF BUSINESS
The regular meeting of January 3, 2000, having been duly publicized, was called to order at 7:00 P. M. by Mayor Jones.
Father David Thompson of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church rendered the invocation and Mayor Jones led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Members present were Mayor Jones and Councilmembers Baggott, Mottel, Sullivan, and Smith. Councilmember McDowell was on vacation, and Councilmember Carpenter arrived after the invocation.
Also in attendance were Charles B. Martin, City Administrator; J. Robert Brooks, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services; George M. Grkovic, Director of Economic and Community Development; T. Lee Wetherington, Director of Public Safety; Thomas C. Zeaser, Director of Engineering/Public Works; Kelly Zier, City Attorney; and Donna B. Young, City Clerk.
The minutes of the regular meeting of December 20, 1999 were approved as submitted by general consent.
ITEM 1. COMMUNITY PROMOTIONS: CELEBRATE 2000 APPRECIATION
Mayor Jones praised the efforts of the City of North Augusta and Augusta, Georgia in the Celebrate 2000 emphasis.
ITEM 2. COMMUNITY PROMOTIONS: GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH "RETURN TO BETHLEHEM" APPRECIATION
On behalf of Grace United Methodist Church William Thweatt praised and thanked the City for their efforts while "Return to Bethlehem" was being presented.
ITEM 3. FINANCE: Y2K APPRECIATION
Mayor Jones praised the efforts of the City of North Augusta and the Y2K Committee consisting of the following employees:
Michael Baldy - Economic and Community Development
Mark Hooks Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services
Chris Lind - Water Production
Billy Luckey - Public Safety
Chuck Usry - Information Services
Tom Zeaser - Public Works
ITEM 4. JUSTICE AND LAW: 2000 JURY BOX COUNCIL APPROVAL
On motion by Councilmember Mottel, second by Councilmember Carpenter, Council unanimously approved the jury box for 2000 containing the names of all registered voters in the City of North Augusta.
ITEM 5. PARKS AND RECREATION: BEAUTIFICATION THE RAPIDS
SUBDIVISION ENTRANCE
Robert E. Stanek, President of The Rapids Homeowners Association, requested the City of North Augustas help in beautifying the entrance to The Rapids Subdivision. Bob Brooks, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services, will meet with Mr. Stannick to further discuss these beautification efforts.
ITEM 6. PUBLIC SAFETY: INTERSTATE 20 REDUCTION OF SPEED LIMITS
Mayor Jones read a letter he had written to Mr. Tony Fallaw, Resident Maintenance Engineer of the South Carolina Department of Transportation, requesting that the Interstate 20 speed limits from the Savannah River to Exit 5, which is U. S. Highway 25, be reduced.
There being no further business, Council adjourned.
