Hydrant Flow Testing
City of North Augusta
Public Service Announcement
Water Distribution System Test
The City of North Augusta's Public Services Department will be testing the hydraulic capacity of the water distribution system starting March 21, 2016, and will continue until July 8, 2016, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
The purpose of this test is to measure available water flow and pressure throughout the water distribution system. The testing processes involves employees opening fire hydrants and allowing large volumes of water to discharge from the system within a short period of time.
Due to the sudden increase of water flow, settled mineral deposits may become detached from pipe walls and create temporary water discoloration. While the water is still safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that it may stain light colored items in your laundry. If you encounter discolored water, it is recommended that you not use the water for several minutes. After waiting several minutes, please open all cold water faucets and allow water to flow for several minutes to allow water to clear.
Your understanding and cooperation during this process is appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns please call (803) 441-4240 during normal business hours Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. For after hour service call (803) 599-3118.
To better serve our customers, you will find a map on the City's Website, at www.northaugusta.net, that will display the daily location where tests are being conducted.
