About North Augusta's Employee Recognition Program
 

North Augusta's Employee Recognition Program was established in 1996 to honor employees who distinguish themselves through unique accomplishments, cost-saving efforts, customer service and consistent performance above normal expectations.

A committee of city employees accepts nominations from city employees and citizens and selects an outstanding employee each quarter. The employee selected as Employee of the Quarter is recognized by Mayor and Council and presented with a plaque and a gift certificate. The city's most recently honored Employees of the Quarter are highlighted below.

  Nate Weigle

The City of North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Nate Weigle, Investigator for the Department of Public Safety, as the employee of the quarter for the first quarter of 2008.

Nate has been employed with the City of North Augusta since 1994. Since that time, he has worked with the patrol division, served as the first School Resource Officer at North Augusta High School and worked as a Juvenile Investigator. Detective Weigle is currently the Fraud Investigator He has a very high work ethic which is responsible for his clearing a remarkable 63% of his cases in the first quarter of 2008.

Detective Weigle displays great compassion for the victims of fraud and understands how difficult it can make their daily lives. He goes above and beyond for these victims by often being the first one in the office in the morning and the last one to leave at night.

Judy Dooley

The City of North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Judy Dooley, Administrative Secretary for the Department of Public Safety as the employee of the quarter for the fourth quarter of 2007.

Judy has been an employee of the City of North Augusta since 1991. Judy is recognized as a truly dedicated employee. She goes above and beyond with her job duties. It is not unusual to find Judy working on various projects for the department from coordinating meals for training classes to providing logistical support at major events. Judy makes sure that the Public Safety Department functions as professionally and as efficiently as possible.

Judy is also instrumental in planning, organizing, recruiting assistance, and purchasing Christmas gifts for needy families. She spent the Sunday before Christmas with only a few volunteer helpers wrapping Christmas gifts and then spent Christmas Eve, with assistance from other Public Safety spouses, in making deliveries to these families.
 
   
 

Christine James

The Employee Recognition Committee recognized Christine James, Customer Service Representative/Business License Clerk for the Department of Finance as the city's Employee of the Quarter for
the third quarter of 2007.

Christine began her employment with the city in 1996 and was promoted to Business License Clerk in 2006.

As Business License Clerk, Christine prepared a Business License User’s Guide to help other finance department employees assist business license customers. Christine’s work speed is described as lightning fast and accurate in performing her job duties. She has a great attitude and greets employees and customers with her smile.

Jeff Williamson

Jeff Williamson

Department of Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services Program Coordinator Jeff Williamson was selected Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2007.

Jeff’s responsibilities include directing the
4-10 year old boys basketball program, the 7-12 year old baseball program, and the 7-12 year old football program. Jeff does a terrific job with coaches, officials, players, and parents of all personalities. He keeps an open mind and works to make sure everyone is treated fairly.

Jeff understands his role in the office and on the field, often rolling up his sleeves to work on ballfields working afternoons, evenings and numerous weekends throughout the year without complaint.

 
 
 

Tom Rogers

Department of Public Safety.D.A.R.E. Officer Tom Rogers was selected as North Augusta's Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2007. A 30 year veteran, Officer Rogers also serves as the Department's Chaplin,and has served as a Public Safety Officer, Patrol Sergeant and Special Operations Investigator.

Tom conducts Drug Abuse Resistance Education to 5th graders at all North Augusta elementary schools. The annual D.A.R.E. graduation has become an important event and Tom’s efforts and rapport with our youth promotes a positive attitude toward law enforcement officers.

He has served on the state D.A.R.E. Executive Board for 6 years and has worked tirelessly with the SC Criminal Justice Academy to help support the American Legion’s Law Enforcement Cadet Academy.

Jinia Schad

The City of North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Jinia Schad, Vehicle Operator II for the Department of Sanitation, as the employee of the quarter for the fourth quarter of 2006.

Jinia has been an employee of the City of North Augusta since February 18, 1998. Jinia has earned the respect of her co-workers for her ability to operate all sanitation vehicles and equipment.

Jinia's customers rave about her job performance. Calls are frequently received singing her praises for going the extra mile to accommodate them. Her quality of work is very important to her. Children on Jinia's route look forward to her wave and friendly smile every week. One Halloween, Jinia dressed up like a clown for the children on her route. Jinia is truly an inspiration to others.

 
 
 

Willie Sims

The North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Willie Simms, Maintenance Worker II, as the employee of the quarter for the third quarter of 2006

Willie began his employment with the city in 1999 and has won the hearts of his fellow co-workers with a combination of attitude, hard work, and being a good example for others. Willie takes great pride in his work and it shows: the carpets are clean, the floors are waxed and shining, the glass is clear, the trash cans are emptied, the restrooms are stocked, and the light bulbs are changed.

In addition, Willie has a genuine concern for his fellow employees and people in general and goes out of his way to assist those in need. Willie is also very active in the community. He serves as the Pastor for Life Changing Ministries and is especially active in trying to help young people who have been in trouble turn their lives around.

Allison May

North Augusta's Employee Recognition Committee recognized Allison May, Community Development Project Coordinator for the Department of Economic and Community Development as the employee of the quarter for the second quarter of 2006.

Employed by the city since 1998, Allison is a very valuable employee to all city departments, working hand in hand with each to make sure that the website is up to date. Allison also coordinates the city's annual Kids Earth Day event and has successfully managed the United Way Campaign for the city for the past three years, with record setting contributions by our employees. In addition to these activities, Allison was behind the scenes for the planning and execution of almost all of the city's festivities in celebration of our centennial year. Allison worked many extra hours to make sure the celebration was a success.

The Employee Recognition Committee recognized Dean Leopard, Meter Technician for the Department of Public Utilities, as the employee of the quarter for the first quarter of 2006.

Dean began his employment with the city in 2002 as a Worker 1 in Public Utilities and in 2005 was promoted to Meter Technician.

Dean is a dependable, conscientious, and intelligent employee. Dean is described as pleasant and friendly in dealing with customers as well as co-workers. His positive attitude is contagious. He is willing to do whatever is requested of him. Dean’s work ethic and leadership skills have made him an integral part of the department and earned him the respect of both his peers and his superiors.

Paul Roach

Paul Roach, heavy equipment operator in Property Maintenance for the Department of Parks, Recreation, & Leisure Services was recognized as the employee of the quarter for the fourth quarter of 2005 by the North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee.

Paul has been employed by the city for five years. Paul adapts to various jobs such as right-of-way mowing, manicuring athletic fields, mowing athletic fields, and installing both sprinkler systems and plant materials in Property Maintenance very easily without complaining. Paul is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done in a professional manner.

 
 
  David Griffin

The Employee Recognition Committee recognized Sergeant David Griffin of the Department of Public Safety as the employee of the quarter for the third quarter of 2005

David began his employment with the city in 1983 and runs Public Safety Station II, and works hard to maintain the station in a state of readiness at all times.

David gives a great deal of his off-duty time to the community with involvement in the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation, The Lions Club, Camp Hope and Fire Camp. Although not a veteran, he also volunteers at the American Legion BBQ fundraiser each year.

David demands the highest standard in firefighting, and is never one to back off from any job that needs to be done.

James “Sonny” Simmons

Sonny Simmons was recognized as the Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2005. Sonny has been employed by the city for over 26 years.

As an employee in the Streets and Drains division, Sonny works in all kinds of conditions on all kinds of projects, from filling potholes with 325 degree asphalt during 100+ degree days to spreading sand on snowy & icy roads and bridges in bone chilling 8 degree days. Sonny has also removed trees from the roadway, repaired signs, poured concrete, helped set up for festivals, ground Christmas trees, cleaned storm drains, supervised community service workers and inmates, and collected litter.

In a department that experiences its share of turnover, Sonny has always been willing to step up and train new employees and help in any capacity.

 
 
  Loretta Mays

The City of North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Loretta Mays, Tax Clerk for the Department of Finance, as the Employee of the Quarter for first quarter of 2005.

Loretta started working for the city in 1994 as a Clerical Secretary. She then served as a Customer Service Representative and in 2003 was promoted to Tax Clerk.

Loretta approaches each day with a positive attitude and greets her fellow employees with a “Good Morning” every day. She is courteous to citizens and answers their questions promptly and professionally. Loretta assists other Finance Department employees by posting utility payments, answering telephones or filling in as cashier. Loretta is always willing to work above and beyond her
required job responsibilities. Recently Loretta worked 21 hours over the weekend
to complete a tax project.

Linda Pitcher, dispatcher for the Department of Public Safety, was recently recognized as the Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2004.

A 23 year employee, Linda’s duties entail much more than just answering calls and dispatching officers.Linda also helps send fire protection dues notices, receives and posts fines received after normal business hours, updates and maintains warrants files and helps train new dispatchers.

Despite having one of the city's more stressful jobs, Linda always appears friendly and cheerful. She is well known for maintaining a calm and professional demeanor, even in the most stressful circumstances. During the ice storm of 2004, Linda coordinated emergency personnel, kept city public works and SCE&G units apprised of conditions and, most importantly, answered calls and helped alleviate concerns for worried residents.

The City of North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Ray Redd, Meter Reader for the Department of Public Utilities, as the Employee of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2004.

Ray began his employment with the city in May 2001. As a meter reader, Ray generally reads between 400 and 600 meters a day. When not reading meters, he changes out old meters and disconnects service on delinquent accounts.

Ray is a contientious employee who is admired and respected by both his co-workers and supervisors for his strong work ethic, good attitude and pleasant disposition.

Jeanne Newman

Jeanne Newman, Administrative Assistant for the Department of Economic and Community Development, was recognized as the Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2004.

Jeanne began her employment with the city in March 2002. In addition to her regular duties maintaining planning and zoning applications and files and assisting the department’s director and planner, Jeanne is always among the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave in the afternoon. She cheerfully works through the countless interruptions and is always willing to lend an ear, an eye, or a hand to anyone in need. Even under stressful circumstances, she is un-flappable and always pleasant, with a calm demeanor and quiet sense of humor.

The city's Employee Recognition Committee recognized Bobby Mays, Heavy Equipment Operator for the Material Recovery Facility, as Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2003.

Bobby has worked for the city since July 2000 and was recognized for his strong work ethic, discipline and dedication to quality. With two material recovery workers on military leave, Bobby has assumed much of the responsibility of operating the facility.

The City of North Augusta Employee Recognition Committee recognized Frank Williams, crew leader at the North Augusta Community Center, as Employee of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2003.

Williams began working for the city in October 1975. He was recognized for his attention to detail, flexibility and patience. He has been the recipient of numerous customer compliments on his kind, respectful and helpful disposition and his ability to handle sometimes-delicate situations with the utmost professionalism.

Chris Fulton, Secretary in the Department of Public Works, was selected as the Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2003.

Fulton began her employment with the city in October 1996. As the secretary for the Building Standards, Engineering, and Sanitation Services Divisions, she ensures that contractors are properly licensed, issues building permits and schedules building inspections. For Sanitation Services she takes calls about missed sanitation pickups, lost - or found - pets and sometimes more unpleasant issues. Despite the often-hectic pace, she is always upbeat and friendly as she quietly and consistently performs her duties.

Cathy Hudson, Utility Billing Coordinator in the Finance Department, was recognized as the Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2003.

Hudson has been with the city since December 1992. She is an extremely hard working and dedicated employee, always available to assist customers and co-workers. Her dedication was proven when she worked evenings and weekends to implement a computer software conversion.
