North Augusta 2000

Introduction

The North Augusta 2000 Foundation, a 501(c)(3), began in 1999 recognizing a need for a strategic vision for the future of the community. The initial effort was an unprecedented undertaking involving hundreds of community leaders representing every facet of North Augusta. The initial community strategic plan was titled: Building for a New Century and it presented a bold series of nine strategic focus areas and numerous goals, objectives, and projects.
In 2000, North Augusta 2000 took the plan to investors who selected thirty-two projects in four of the nine strategy areas to be implemented in the first five year cycle from 2001 through 2005 and into 2006. These are: Economic Development, Quality of Life, Education, and Parks and Recreation. North Augusta 2000 raised pledges of $1.8 million to fund these projects in the first ever community fundraising project of this nature in the history of North Augusta. Implementation began in 2001 and, in 2005, as the end of five-year cycle of funding approached the North Augusta 2000 Board of Directors determined to review the first five year effort and update the Strategic Plan for another five year period.

The updated 2007-2011 Strategic Plan, Continuing the Vision, is a continuation of the spirit and purpose of the original plan. It was developed through the input of hundreds of North Augusta citizens, stakeholder groups, and community leaders through individual, small group, and public meetings.

As North Augusta 2000 reflects on the many successes of its first five years, it must continue to follow its charge and move forward with bold purpose to achieve the goals set out at the dawn of the twenty-first century. This plan is the continuation of that effort, the beginning of new undertakings, and an opportunity to enable new partnerships and offer an ever expanding reach to the citizens of the community. North Augusta 2000 will continue to encourage the pursuit of excellence in every community program it initiates or supports. As described in this document, the role of North Augusta 2000 will evolve. As a community leadership organization it will start to move beyond its initial role of program implementer to one of fostering and supporting new leaders to implement a wider range of programs that will multiply the successes achieved by North Augusta 2000 in its first five years.
