North Augusta Hometown Heroes
The City of North Augusta is proud to honor local men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The program, called Hometown Heroes, salutes current and former military personnel with banners recognizing their service. The banners display a picture of the veteran in uniform, their service branch, and their era of service. Banners are hung on City light poles along Georgia Avenue from Memorial Day through July 4 and from late October through mid-November in honor of Veterans Day. The process to participate in the North Augusta Hometown Heroes program is simple:
- Complete an application form, either for yourself or on behalf of a veteran
- Submit a picture of the veteran in uniform and copy of DD 214
- Pay the $75 fee (covers the cost of producing the banner)
Applications are currently being accepted for banners. The deadline is April 10, 2020 for the Spring installation and September 18, 2020 for the Fall installation. All banners purchased will be displayed each year - there is no need to apply each year. Printed applications are available at the North Augusta Municipal Building, Riverview Park Activity Center, or available for download here.
The North Augusta Hometown Heroes program is a partnership with the Aiken County Veterans Council (ACVC). The ACVC handles all applications for participation in the North Augusta Hometown Heroes program (including the $75 banner fee) and have the banners produced. City of North Augusta staff hang the banners on City light poles, and store them when not in use.
