Paid Parking Enforcement in Riverside Village
The City of North Augusta began enforcing paid on-street parking requirements in Riverside Village on October 1, 2019. Parking meter payment is required seven days a week, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The rate to park is $1.00 per hour for a maximum of two hours. On-street parking is not allowed between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Payment for parking can be made at the meter via debit card, credit card or coins. The City is also working on a mobile app to accept meter payments; development of the app is in its final stages. Streets that require on-street parking include: Railroad Avenue, Center Street, Esplanade Avenue, Front Street and Brissie Drive.
Enforcement of payment and parking time limits will be handled by North Augusta Public Safety Officers. Citations will be issued for cars that violate on-street parking requirements. In the City of North Augusta, a $20 fine is assessed for each parking violation unless otherwise prescribed by law. South Carolina state law exempts persons with valid handicapped, disabled veteran and purple heart license plates or handicap placards from parking meter fees.
Earlier this year, the City installed parking meters throughout Riverside Village for the 170+ on-street parking spaces. Ticketing for non-payment was delayed to allow businesses, residents and visitors time to acclimate to the on-street parking changes. The goals of the parking meters and time limits are to increase turnover in on-street parking spaces and make limited resources more available. On-street parking is intended to provide short-term parking options for customers of the retail stores and restaurants in Riverside Village. Visitors needing to park for more than two hours can park in the parking garage on Railroad Avenue.
